Jolicloud 1.0 – My Review So Far…

Sorry for the super delayed response in writing this, I had some family matters to attend to and they have been taking up much time.   But, without any more of a delay, here are my opening round thoughts of Jolicloud 1.0

Good:

  • I obviously love the HTML5 menu system.   I enjoyed the Ubuntu Netbook Remix, but that was 3+ versions of Ubuntu ago, it’s a bit dated and needed work – the new launcher is leaps & bounds above.
  • The synchronization across netbooks.   I have a virtual machine on a work computer, and being able to keep the two accounts synced is great.
  • I enjoy all the new graphics & menus surrounding your social networking.
  • The profile information is much clearer & easier to use than ever.
  • Adding applications, organizing, & launching are a joy to use.   They really did some nice work with the layouts.

Not so good:

  • Every time I log in, I have to re-sync all 53 applications that I have.   I have a virtual machine on a work computer and maybe that is why it wants to synchronize every time, but I have to download and install Gimp every time I sign in.
  • The updates on my account just don’t update.    Every time I log in, I have to sync my apps, and apply 30+ updates that never take.  If I launch the Jolicloud Updates app from before, nothing ever appears.   I don’t want to try Ubuntu’s update-manager, as it crashed a VM of Jolicloud a few months prior that I don’t want to try yet.  Is there another update .deb that I can download to get these to update?
  • Is there a way to move Legacy Apps into the Launcher? Am I missing this?

There’s my first list.  Does anyone else have anything to add to the Good & Not So Good?   Jolicloud has been great with offering updates to issues/concerns that users have with the funcionality, so any constructive criticism will not fall on deaf ears.

Good luck to all & hope to see many updates in the future!
