Another new kernel update was release for the Jolicloud Pre-Beta, bringing the new kernel to 2.6.32-6-jolicloud

Users of Jolicloud in a VirtualBox environment need to update the kernel headers.

If you have used our Jolicloud in VirtualBox instructions before on how to enable Guest Additions, follow these instructions to bring guest additions back up to the newest kernel.

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install make linux-headers-$(uname -r)


Each line is a separate command, so you’ll have to hit enter after each one. Once everything is done downloading and compiling restart the virtual machine and when it starts back up everything should be working.

For anyone that has had an issue or problem with the Jolicloud Express Installer for Windows, Jolicloud has created a Safe-Mode Pre-Beta Installer program.

Here are the steps:

1. Download JolicloudExpressSafe-PreBeta.exe (2.2 Mb)
   http://mirror.jolicloud.typhon.net/JolicloudExpressSafe-PreBeta.exe
2. Download Jolicloud-PreBeta.iso (602 Mb)
   http://mirror.jolicloud.typhon.net/Jolicloud-PreBeta.iso
3. Save the ISO on your system drive root (usually your C: drive)
4. Run JolicloudExpress-safe.exe (If Vista or Windows 7, right click and run as Administrator)

Express Installer

So the big question is – I just installed the Pre-Beta and it doesn’t look any different.    There are some slight changes to the X to close applications, fonts have been updated, color scheme is slightly different; but it’s the same launcher, not the new one on the site.

@Jolicloud’s tweet hints that by the end of the week everyone will get the new look via regular updates:

“To all our alpha users, you will be able to upgrade to the pre-beta by the end of the week. No need to reinstall, just update as usual.”

So that about sums it up.   As soon as the updates are released, we’ll have screen shots and a full review for you to take in.

So we’re going to have to wait for Beta before the new main menu (with HTML5 support).

Interested in trying Jolicloud?    There is the Windows Install executable that allows you to dual boot Jolicloud within Windows, or for purists, you can install just Jolicloud on your netbook.

I’m hoping that means the updates will be available to those Alpha users that update throughthe Update manager on the Jolicloud dashboard.
